Elmer and Hiker were taken from a hoarding situation where the backyard breeder paid no attention to any of the dogs. Elmer and Hiker came from a pack of 69 dogs and had never been socialized. Both of these boys are kind spirited, and extremely shy. When we rescued them from a local kill shelter we were hoping that they would come out of their shells and be ready for adoption within a few months, this is not the case. Though they have come a long way, they still need alot of rehabilitation. Both boys are most comfortable in a group of dogs where they blossom with personality. Volunteers are working with them daily, taking them for short walks around the property or having them spend time inside on a one on one basis.

CARES is not a sanctuary, we save more lives when those in our care are adopted and we can rescue more from death row. CARES usually does not adopt to families if the dog is going to be kept outside, but both these boys were thrive with the freedom of living outside as long as they had ample shelter(large enough for both).
